About National Weather Service:

National Weather Service is a Federal Government Agency, whose main mission is to protect property and precious lives. The National Weather Service was previously called as the Weather Bureau. It is a part of the programmatic component of NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).  The office of the National Weather Service is located at the Salt River Project Administration Building, at Tempe in Arizona. The office of National Weather Service functions 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The job of National Weather Service is considered essential and operates even during government shutdowns. The National Weather Service employees help save important lives from the devastation and destruction of Mother Nature. The National Weather Service is composed of Meteorologists, Electrical Technicians, Computer Scientists, Climatologists, Hydrologists, Hydro-meteorological technicians. Most of them are highly skilled technicians having good degrees, and do their job with dedication and devotion.

Functions of the National Weather Service:

Following are some of the functions of the National Weather Service in Tucson:-

1. Saving Lives and Property: - This is the most important mission of the National Weather Service. National Weather Service employees carry out their duties by issuing a warning or watch notice to the residents, so that they would be warned of any impending dangers to the lives of the people of Tucson and property. Most of the warnings are issued for thunderstorms, blizzards, high winds and rains.
2. Weather forecasts: - In addition to warnings, the National Weather Service issues weather forecasts of various regions and cities. These include state forecasts, regional forecasts and zonal forecasts. Short-term forecasts, river forecasts and fire forecasts are also included in the services of the National Weather Service in Tucson.
3. Apart from these, the National Weather service does the work of maintenance of climate records and collection of important data related to weather.
