MESOSCALE WEATHER FORECAST

Introduction to Mesoscale Weather Forecast:

Mesoscale Weather Forecast specializes in predicting the severe weather condition on the scale called Mesoscale. The mesoscale values predicted constitutes a time framework of up to six hours within a specific size of area. The predictions comprises of vast information on climatic conditions that are likely to transform into stern thunderstorms, intense rains, tornadoes, harmful frosty and fire weather. The mesoscale weather forecasters are primarily responsible in providing guidance on the configuration, and progression of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. This guidance provided by the mesoscale forecasters are called as Mesoscale Discussions (MDs). They further prepare the status reports for stern weather watched in the hour during the observations. These reports act as a guiding light in indicating the threat of severe weather conditions persisting in a particular area.

Need of Mesoscale Weather Forecast:

Necessity of Mesoscale Weather Forecast grew, due to increasing demand for information on mesoscale weather by various sectors such as aviation, agro-meteorology, air pollution and hydrology. Mesoscale is equally important as it predicts the severe weather conditions persisting locally, and help in preventing the damage to life and property. The existing objects used for weather forecast are unable to predict the mesoscale events and hence, specific mesoscale observations are carried on. These observations require Doppler Radars, Satellites, Lidars, Profilers of wind, Meso-network and Aircrafts. The analysis of Mesoscale is done after assimilating the data from these different sensors and sources. Proper quality data analysis can help understand the mesoscale weather happenings, at the same time will enable in building diagnostic instruments and conducting research for combating.

Mesoscale Forecasting:

Mesoscale weather forecasting can be bifurcated in to three groups: owcasting, very short-range forecast, short-range forecasts. An integrated mesoscale modeling program is developed for achieving the following objectives:

  1. Development of effective forecast systems by integration, observation, database administration and assimilation methods.
  2. To develop Mesoscale weather Forecast system that is adaptable by varied geographical locations
  3. To integrate diverse needs of the users by the set up of user interface thereby making it a global platform.
